How to check an Odoo partner in 5 minutes: references, certifications and retention

A step-by-step guide to reading a partner's page in the odoo.com/partners directory: what to look at and which signs should raise a flag.

Published: 6 min read
Short answer: To check an Odoo partner, open its page in the odoo.com/partners directory and look at five things: the tier badge (Ready, Silver, Gold), the number of certified experts and their versions, the number and industries of references, the size of the largest and average project, and the customer retention rate. These 5 minutes tell you more than ads or meetings. Below, using Deep Vision's page as a worked example, we show how to read each block.

Many companies pick an Odoo provider on a recommendation, an ad or the feel of a first meeting. Yet Odoo publishes open data about every official partner, and the provider cannot edit it. To check an Odoo partner, all you need is to read that page correctly. This guide explains what each block means, which numbers should raise a flag, and what to do if there is no page at all.

What is the Odoo partner directory and why can you trust it?

The Odoo partner directory is the official list at odoo.com/partners where Odoo shows every approved partner with its tier, certified experts, references and customer retention.

The directory draws on Odoo's internal data: subscriptions sold, certification exams passed and subscriptions renewed by clients. That makes it more reliable than claims on a provider's own website. The tier requirements are published on the official partner programme page.

How do you find a partner's page?

  • Open odoo.com/partners.
  • Choose "Uzbekistan" (or your country) in the country filter.
  • Type the provider's name into the search box.
  • In the results, note the tier badge next to the name and open the page.

If the provider does not appear, try another spelling or ask it for the direct link. If it cannot give you one, it is not an official partner.

How do you read the 5 key blocks when checking an Odoo partner?

1. Tier badge

The partner's tier appears in the upper part of the page. Gold is the highest: 300 new Enterprise users a year, 6 certified experts and at least 80% retention. Silver requires 75, 3 and 70%; Ready requires 10 and 1, with no retention minimum. The tier tells you the partner's yearly volume of work.

Example: the Deep Vision page shows the Gold Partner badge.

2. Certified experts

This block shows how many people hold an Odoo certification and on which versions. Look at two things: the count (with one expert, your project depends on one person) and the versions (if they are all old, the team may not know newer features).

Example: Deep Vision has 7 certified experts on v17, v18 and v19.

3. References

References are clients the partner implemented that are registered with Odoo. Look for answers to three questions: how many are there, which industries are they in, and is any of them similar to your company? If you are a manufacturer and every reference is a services firm, take note.

Example: Deep Vision has 20+ references, mostly wholesale, retail and manufacturing, plus construction, logistics and entertainment.

4. Project size

The page usually shows the largest and average project size in users. If you have 80 users and the partner's largest project is 10, you will be its most complex project ever. That is a risk.

Example: Deep Vision's largest client has 100+ users, and its average project is about 22 users.

5. Customer retention

Retention shows what percentage of clients stayed with the partner. It is the most honest number on the page because it reflects service quality after go-live. Compare it with the tier requirement: 80% for Gold, 70% for Silver.

Example: Deep Vision's retention is 89%.

How do you compare several providers' pages?

Most companies shortlist 2–3 providers. A simple method: copy the five numbers from each page into one list and put your own company's figures next to them.

  • Tier: who has met the higher Odoo requirements?
  • Certifications: who has more experts, and who is certified on the current version?
  • References: who has more clients in your industry?
  • Project size: whose largest project is at least as large as your user count?
  • Retention: whose clients stay more often?

A hypothetical example (for illustration only): a manufacturer with 40 users. Provider A is Silver, with 3 certifications, 8 references (one in manufacturing) and a largest project of 15 users. Provider B is Gold, with 7 certifications, 20+ references (several in manufacturing) and a largest project of 100+ users. If prices are close, risk with B is clearly lower because your project sits inside its experience.

Doing this comparison before meetings lets you ask precise questions and saves time.

Which signs should raise a flag?

When reading the page, these deserve serious questions:

  • The provider is missing from the directory but calls itself an "official partner".
  • Its website says "Gold" while the directory shows a lower tier.
  • There are no references, or only one or two.
  • All certifications belong to one person or cover only old versions.
  • The largest project is several times smaller than your company.
  • Retention is close to the tier minimum or not shown.
  • Not a single reference comes from your industry.

These signs do not rule a provider out automatically, but you should ask about them directly. Gartner expects more than 70% of recently implemented ERP initiatives to fail to fully meet their original goals by 2027 (Gartner), so five minutes up front are well spent.

What should you check after the directory?

The directory is a first filter. Next:

  • Call 1–2 references and ask how their project went.
  • Ask for public cases with numbers: timeline, results, number of users.
  • Find out who will lead your project and what their experience is.
  • Get the post-go-live support terms in writing.

How does Deep Vision show its data openly?

We advise clients to open our directory page first, because it does not depend on our words:

  • Odoo partner page: Gold tier, 7 certified experts (v17–v19), 20+ references, 89% retention.
  • Public cases: Timsoll (18 branches, 7,000+ SKU, new product setup from 6–8 months to 2–3 days), Optika.uz and RockBeton (in our portfolio).
  • A client with 100+ employees cut yearly spending on scattered tools from about $30,000 to about $11,000.
  • Ready modules for Asl Belgisi and Didox, and the Uzbek translation of Odoo.

Frequently asked questions

How current is the directory data?

Odoo takes the data from its own systems and reviews tiers regularly. Still, before an important decision, open the page on the same day.

Can I work with a provider that is not in the directory?

You can, but Odoo has not approved it. Verifying licences, certifications and references some other way is much harder.

Can I call the clients on the reference list?

Yes, and you should. A reliable partner does not avoid connecting you with its clients.

What does low retention mean?

A noticeable share of clients has left the partner. Ask about the reasons directly.

How long does it take to check an Odoo partner?

Reading the directory takes 5 minutes; with calls to references, 1–2 days.

Why does the certification version matter?

Modules and the interface change with every new Odoo version. A certification on the current version (for example v18 or v19) shows the expert knows the system you will actually use.
